Joanne | San Francisco Maternity Photographer

I don’t typically do maternity portraits, but let me tell you this – there is just something radiant about a mother-to-be. I know that sounds totally cliche, but every time I do a maternity session for a client, I am reminded of how beautiful life is, and how amazing the human body is. We have the ability to create and give life – stop and think about that for a second. Isn’t it freaking awesome?! I mean, really. Our bodies change and adapt, providing a place for a little human to grow for almost 10 months. We then bring that child into the world and go right back to living life as if nothing happened. It is an incredible thing, that’s for sure.

Back to the matter at hand, though – these gorgeous photos! Joanne was absolutely radiant – a simply beautiful mommy. We focused on her for the majority of our session, but her husband and daughter jumped in for a few shots, and I am so glad they did. We were forced to head to the studio, since the weather was windy, cold, and rainy, but I think the result was totally worth it.

Giving birth and being born brings us into the essence of creation, where the human spirit is courageous and bold and the body, a miracle of wisdom.

Harriette Hartigan

“The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.
